Packaging with Purpose: 6 Ways Recycled Packaging is Saving Our Oceans

Recycled Packaging Is Better for Our Oceans

At The Dive Compass, sustainability drives every aspect of our business, from our eco-friendly swimwear to how we deliver your orders. That's why we use recycled packaging made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, a decision that aligns with our core mission to protect our oceans and planet.

For all orders fulfilled in the US, our packaging consists of 90–100% PCR plastic. For orders fulfilled in Europe, the recycled content ranges from 70–100%. Here are six key benefits of our PCR plastic packaging:

1. Reduces Plastic Pollution

Beach cleanup for ocean conservation

PCR plastic is sourced from everyday recycled plastics — bottles, containers, and other post-consumer waste — directly reducing plastic that could otherwise pollute our oceans and harm marine life. Every order shipped in PCR packaging helps keep our seas cleaner.

2. Lowers Energy Consumption

Using PCR packaging saves significant energy compared to producing virgin plastic. PCR plastic can require up to 50% less energy to produce, leading to fewer CO₂ emissions and a reduced environmental footprint.

3. Minimizes Waste

We've streamlined our packaging by minimizing unnecessary plastic layers, especially in single-item shipments. This approach reduces waste and simplifies recycling — helping ensure our packaging stays out of landfills.

4. Promotes a Circular Economy

PCR plastic supports a circular economy where materials are continuously reused rather than discarded. By choosing recycled packaging, we actively contribute to resource efficiency and environmental conservation — closing the loop on plastic waste.

5. Easy Recycling and Reuse

Post-consumer recycled plastic mailers

Our PCR packaging features a "Recycle me again" message, encouraging continued recycling. We also include a QR code providing recycling guidelines and local drop-off locations — making sustainable disposal simple and accessible.

The QR code on our packaging links customers to recycling guidelines and the nearest drop-off points. This service is currently available for customers in the US and Canada. Scanning the QR code will take you to: myorders.co/packaging

6. Reduces Dependence on Raw Materials

By using PCR plastics, we significantly reduce our reliance on petroleum-based virgin materials. This helps conserve natural resources, reduces environmental degradation from extraction processes, and contributes to long-term sustainability.

Our Commitment So Far

Sustainable swimwear built for the ocean

Since launching The Dive Compass, every order has shipped in PCR plastic packaging — reducing our reliance on virgin plastic from day one. This is one part of a broader commitment to making every decision count, from the materials in our swimwear to the packaging it arrives in.

Coral reefs need our help

Your purchase plants corals

Did you know that it is estimated that over 50% of coral reefs have been lost since the 1950s?

When we learned this heartbreaking statistic we knew we had to do something about it - so we created The Dive Compass, an ocean loving swimwear brand where YOUR purchase can actually make a difference. Each purchase plants corals in the heart of the Coral Triangle in Bali, Indonesia with the Livingseas Foundation.
